About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coordinate and monitor daily and long-term interpreter schedules, assignments, and coverage
- Track requests for sign language interpreting services and communicate assignments, schedule changes, and coverage information
- Maintain records of schedules, assignments, service requests, absences, substitutions, coverage changes, and related departmental information
- Provide interpreting and transliterating services, including voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice communication
- Monitor interpreting services in educational settings to promote professional standards and best practices
- Serve as a resource to interpreters and CCPS personnel regarding requesting, scheduling, and providing interpreting services
- Mentor sign language interpreting interns
- Assist with identifying professional development needs and developing, coordinating, and delivering professional learning
- Maintain confidentiality and follow division, department, school policies, procedures, and the RID Code of Professional Conduct
- Prepare periodic reports regarding scheduling, assignments, service requests, coverage, absenteeism, and service costs
- Use personal computers, communication technology, and general office equipment
- Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations for recruitment, internships, professional development, and program needs
- Work under the direction of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist and provide operational work direction without direct reports
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma, or equivalent
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License
- Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Level III (or above) certification, Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment score of 3.5 (or above) with a passing score on the Written Test, or another state qualification or national certification recognized by VDDHH as equivalent to or exceeding Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Level III
- Knowledge of Deaf culture, deafness, interpretation and transliteration practices, applicable state and federal requirements, and the RID Code of Professional Conduct
- Fluency in English and American Sign Language and/or the sign mode specified by an IEP
- Ability to accurately interpret between spoken and signed language
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize schedules and coverage and respond to changing service needs
- Ability to maintain accurate records and use electronic scheduling and record-keeping systems
- Ability to work independently within established procedures and communicate effectively
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships and sensitivity to a diverse population
- Must successfully complete FBI Criminal History Investigation, State Police Criminal History Investigation, CPS Investigation, and Tuberculosis Screening/Test
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Frequent travel to school sites throughout the division is required
- Preferred: Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Level IV certification
- Preferred: National RID Certifications including CI, CT, CI/CT, NIC, or Ed: K-12
- Preferred: NAD Level III, IV, or V certification
