About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Carry out fire safety inspections, surveys, assessments and consultancy services across residential, commercial, educational, healthcare and public sector buildings
  • Undertake intrusive and non-intrusive inspections of building fabric, compartmentation, fire stopping, fire doors, means of escape and fire protection systems
  • Identify and assess fire safety risks and defects
  • Provide clients with recommendations and practical advice on compliance and remedial requirements
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications and schedules of works
  • Prioritise risks and support fire safety and remediation programmes
  • Provide regulatory and technical advice relating to fire safety legislation, building regulations, passive fire protection and fire risk management
  • Support construction, refurbishment and remediation projects
  • Review contractor proposals, inspect works on site and verify fire safety installations and remedial works
  • Build client relationships and collaborate with building surveyors, project managers, architects and other consultants
  • Present technical findings, attend client meetings, maintain high-quality records and support best practice and business development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Relevant qualifications and professional accreditation: Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent in Building Surveying, Fire Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
  • Recognised fire safety qualification
  • MRICS or working towards Chartered status is desirable
  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, regulatory requirements and passive fire protection systems, including compartmentation, fire stopping and fire doors
  • Proven experience undertaking building inspections and surveys
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, building defects and fire protection systems
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Ability to produce detailed technical reports
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication skills and commitment to high-quality service
  • Experience of higher-risk buildings, FRAEW/external wall assessments or remediation projects would be advantageous
