About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide daily safety support to assigned work groups
- Conduct observations and audits of personnel, tools, equipment, and work practices
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend programs, practices, tools, and equipment to reduce or eliminate risk
- Participate in and lead organizational Learning Events
- Conduct incident investigations and identify causes and corrective actions
- Collaborate with departments and leadership to develop, deliver, and implement safety programs and policies
- Support the SIF prevention strategy through discussions, presentations, and training
- Review, interpret, and apply OSHA, PHMSA, NFPA, ANSI, and ASTM workplace safety standards
- Monitor and review safety data for trends and identify risk reduction strategies
- Develop and conduct safety training and presentations
- Maintain relationships with appropriate agencies and monitor regulatory and governmental proceedings
- Assist the legal department regarding occupational safety and potential exposure concerns
- Participate in Emergency Operations when emergency response is activated
- Provide safety support to Texas Gas Operations in Houston while working with employees, contractors, leadership, and the Safety and Training organization
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related technical field from an accredited college or university, or a combination of education and experience where two years of experience may substitute for one year of education
- Minimum of five years’ experience in Safety
- Preferred safety experience in Gas Utilities, Oil and Gas Operations, or Industrial Organizations
- Preferred valid certification as a CSP, ASP, CUSP, OHST, or CHST
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat and/or kneel and sit and/or stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds repetitively and carry, push, pull, or move objects
- Manual dexterity to operate computers, office equipment, training equipment, and training devices
- Ability to view computer monitors and sit, stand, or walk for long periods
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive for multiple hours a day
- Ability to verbally exchange information with customers and company personnel
- Ability to work in shop, office, and field environments and tolerate all weather conditions, including occasional nighttime work
- Ability to work around potentially hazardous conditions, moving machinery, energized equipment, flammable solvents, hazardous wastes, heat, dirty or greasy equipment, and noise
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and ear plugs
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet established deadlines
- Ability to travel to field locations, remote areas, conferences, and meetings, occasionally overnight
- Required to remain in the service area during emergency events and support restoration efforts
