About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own and evolve infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and cloud deployment patterns for DME/ACDC platform application stacks
- Design, implement, and maintain Terraform modules and environment pipelines provisioning AWS workloads across non-production and production-like environments
- Build and harden GitLab CI/CD workflows for plan/apply, image build/push, and controlled deployments
- Configure runners, credentials/role assumption, and environment promotion practices
- Partner with application engineers to make Node.js/React and backend services operable in AWS
- Manage ECS task definitions, autoscaling, service lifecycle, secrets/configuration, logging/metrics, and safe restart/redeploy patterns
- Drive platform reliability and cost efficiency through automation, including environment park/wake schedules and inventory-driven start/stop tooling
- Embed security into delivery through least-privilege IAM, permissions boundaries, secure container and pipeline defaults, secret handling, and compliance-minded GovCloud/elevated-environment patterns
- Lead incident and change support for infrastructure and pipeline failures
- Diagnose Terraform/state, CI, and AWS runtime issues and implement durable fixes
- Improve engineering maturity through reusable modules, documented runbooks, reviewable IaC standards, and developer mentorship on DevOps/DevSecOps practices
- Review merge requests for infrastructure, CI, and deployment changes, upholding quality, security, and operational readiness before merge
- Support the Air Force Data Mesh Environment and Cloud One mission by enabling secure, scalable data discovery, access, interoperability, and distributed data operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- US Citizen
- Ability to obtain a DoW (formerly DoD) Active Secret clearance
- 6+ years in DevOps, DevSecOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles supporting production cloud applications (or equivalent depth with clear ownership of CI/CD + cloud infrastructure)
- Hands-on experience designing and operating AWS workloads with Terraform, including multi-env var files, remote state, modules, and safe plan/apply workflows
- Experience deploying and operating containerized services on ECS, or EKS/Kubernetes with clear transferability, including task/service definitions, autoscaling, and rollout practices
- Strong experience building and maintaining GitLab CI pipelines, or similar, for infrastructure and application delivery, including secrets, OIDC/role assumption, and environment-based promotion
- Practical DevSecOps mindset, including IAM least privilege, secure pipeline design, secret management, and hardening of build/deploy paths
- Ability to work closely with application teams, translate operational requirements into automation, and communicate clearly in design reviews and merge-request feedback
- Proven ability to debug failed pipelines, Terraform drift/apply errors, and AWS runtime issues under time pressure
- Experience with AWS GovCloud and/or DoD / Cloud One / IL4–IL6 environments and controls is nice to have
- Experience with API gateways, ICAM/AuthN/AuthZ platforms, and policy engines is nice to have
- Experience with FinOps/cost-control automation is nice to have
- Experience with Docker image build, lightning/hardening, and ECR or equivalent registries is nice to have
- Experience with Systems Manager, EventBridge/scheduling patterns, and App Auto Scaling for ECS is nice to have
- Experience with SonarQube or other automated quality/security scanning in CI is nice to have
- Experience with environment factories/bootstrap modules is nice to have
- Ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance
