About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform complex accounting functions with minimal supervision
- Apply general accounting methods, principles, and practices across company business units
- Develop and implement solutions to daily accounting issues
- Provide direction to department staff members
- Reconcile and analyze financial information used to prepare general ledger entries
- Examine financial information and documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting requirements
- Prepare projections and determine trends in accounting data
- Perform statistical analysis of financial statements, budgets, and tax returns
- Write narrative reports explaining analytical findings
- Identify accounting problems, research solutions, and present conclusions to management
- Determine proper handling of financial transactions and approve transactions
- Monitor compliance with statutory accounting principles, generally accepted accounting principles, and company procedures
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
- Prepare monthly department reports for management
- Assist with department-wide projects
- Review and/or prepare premium tax estimated deposits and annual returns, guaranty associations, state assessments, surveys, fees, city taxes, and miscellaneous state filings for CSO and subsidiary companies
- Review Accountants’ work to ensure financial data integrity
- Collaborate with department members to resolve problems and inquiries and support efficient data and information flow
- Assist in financial audits
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Access company email as an integral part of job responsibilities
- Work in a sedentary corporate office environment using standard office equipment
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Accounting, Finance or another complementary discipline
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible post-college accounting experience
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with internal coworkers and external contacts
- Solid understanding of MS Excel
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Self-starter with ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Preferred: previous insurance industry experience
- Preferred: knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles
- Attendance required during scheduled hours at the designated work location
- Must successfully complete post-offer drug screening and background check
- Post-offer background check may include criminal, education, past employment, credit, and/or motor vehicle reports where related to the position
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
