About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Take and record TPR and report deviations from normal to the primary or Charge Nurse
- Obtain assigned specimens, such as urine, stool, and sputum
- Weigh patients and record weight
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, ambulation, skin care, and meals
- Record oral intake and urinary output
- Perform assigned treatments, including changing simple dressings
- Communicate patients' needs and requests to the Charge Nurse or primary nurse
- Orient patients to the environment and develop rapport with patients, families, and significant others
- Assist with patient management, de-escalation, alternative activities, and patient containment, restraint, or seclusion under Registered Nurse direction
- Perform admission and unit searches as assigned, including belongings and same-gender patient visual searches
- Maintain clean patient and non-patient unit areas
- Prepare bedside units for new admissions
- Apply infection-control and workplace-safety principles
- Report significant unit problems to the Charge Nurse
- Prevent contraband introduction through property searches, unit rounds, and visitor monitoring
- Monitor visiting sessions as assigned
- Transport patients to and from designated areas
- Assist with therapeutic unit activities as directed by the Registered Nurse
- Ensure a safe unit environment through rounding, patient observation, and reporting issues
- Use the hospital computer system according to job responsibilities and hospital policy
- Participate in orientation of mental health assistants and unit committees
- Assist other personnel as necessary
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma/GED
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Previous experience in a behavioral health setting preferred
- Previous direct patient care experience preferred
