About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support a Federal Agency’s nationwide Physical Security Program Office by managing a testing and demonstration laboratory
  • Maintain a safe and orderly laboratory and ensure equipment and prior test results are readily accessible
  • Install, configure, integrate, and update electronic security hardware and software, including PACS, IDS, VMS, intercom, and network systems
  • Evaluate new, emerging, and returned products for capability, limitations, interoperability, maturity, Federal policy compliance, and fitness for Program use or reuse
  • Advise stakeholders on changes to installation and configuration standards
  • Develop practical test methods and conduct controlled experiments producing meaningful, repeatable results
  • Analyze test results and produce evaluation reports, technical guides, and procedures
  • Reproduce field-reported problems and troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, cabling, power, configuration, and integration issues
  • Facilitate laboratory activities with manufacturers’ representatives to obtain technical information and resolve problems
  • Test PACS hardware and software components for compliance with Federal security policies, standards, and functional requirements
  • Maintain equipment inventories, labels, diagrams, photographs, configuration records, and test documentation
  • Prepare equipment and test environments for stakeholder demonstrations and reviews
  • Travel up to 10% outside the DC area to validate Physical Security installations performed by third parties and issue findings reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a government clearance
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information technology, cybersecurity, or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 4 years of total experience in the security industry
  • 2 years of hands-on installation and configuration of integrated Physical Access Control, Video Management, and Intrusion Detection Systems
  • Experience integrating a variety of electronic security devices
  • System administrator level knowledge of Windows servers, virtual machines, relational databases, and storage systems
  • Knowledge of IP addressing, switching, and basic network troubleshooting
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and electronic test equipment
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze technical results and produce clear, well-organized reports, procedures, and technical guides based on hands-on testing or experimentation
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Specific experience and/or certification in Hirsch Velocity and IQSight BVMS products is preferred
  • IT and PACS Security Certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, PSP, CSEIP, CSCIP/G or CISSP) is preferred
  • Cisco Certification (e.g., CCST, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) is preferred
  • Working knowledge of HSPD-12, FIPS 201-3, and NIST publications (800-116-1, 800-53-5, 800-73-4) is preferred
  • Experience developing technical guidance for a systems or software manufacturer is preferred
