About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work under the direction of a Project Supervisor or Project Manager
  • Perform complex legal research for trial staff
  • Assist in preparing draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, and memoranda of law
  • Review and conduct research for ROI (Release of Information)
  • Review new cases and research pertinent laws
  • Edit previously submitted final decisions and write/research legal opinions on new cases
  • Edit and review cases for issuance
  • Respond to citizen letters
  • Review AMICUS briefs
  • Brief attorneys regarding legal issues, theories, and draft statements of facts
  • Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation
  • Perform cite checking using Westlaw, Lexis, and Bluebook

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Requires Juris Doctor (JD) degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or equivalent legal training or experience or equivalent education may be substituted
  • Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources
  • Thorough knowledge of LEXIS and Westlaw
  • Extensive experience with cite checking and Bluebook
  • Experience performing complex legal research
  • Hands-on familiarity with word processing, databases, document review and file management systems, spreadsheets, and imaging
  • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure
  • Government and/or litigation support experience preferred
  • Experience with Relativity strongly preferred
  • Publication of legal writings highly preferred
  • Participation in Law Review highly preferred
  • Current or active clearance
