About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide litigation support for the legal mission of a large federal agency
- Perform complex legal research for trial staff
- Prepare draft motions, briefs, memoranda of law, and other legal documents
- Review and research Release of Information matters
- Review new cases and research pertinent laws
- Edit final decisions and write or research legal opinions
- Edit and review cases for issuance
- Respond to citizen letters
- Review amicus briefs
- Brief attorneys on legal issues, theories, and draft statements of facts
- Assist attorneys with all phases of litigation
- Perform cite checking using Westlaw, Lexis, and Bluebook
- Work under the direction of a Project Supervisor or Project Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (JD) degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study, or equivalent legal training, experience, or education
- Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources
- Thorough knowledge of LEXIS and Westlaw
- Extensive experience with cite checking and Bluebook
- Experience performing complex legal research
- Hands-on familiarity with word processing, databases, document review and file management systems, spreadsheets, and imaging
- Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure
- Government and/or litigation support experience preferred
- Relativity experience strongly preferred
- Publication of legal writings highly preferred
- Participation in Law Review highly preferred
- Current or active clearance
