About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, document and commission audiovisual systems across multiple theatre consultancy projects
- Lead audiovisual system design, coordinating quality, design information and delivery
- Develop design principles, system strategies and technical solutions aligned with client briefs, operational requirements, architectural vision, performance needs and budgets
- Produce and oversee drawings, specifications, reports, schedules, calculations and technical information
- Lead technical discussions with clients, users and project stakeholders
- Communicate audiovisual and stage lighting systems to creative designers, clients, technicians, architects, engineers and contractors
- Coordinate infrastructure, spatial requirements, power, data, containment, environmental conditions and access with architectural and engineering teams
- Collaborate with stage lighting, stage engineering, theatre design and acoustics colleagues
- Provide technical leadership during design development, construction and implementation
- Provide cost projections and support market testing with manufacturers, suppliers and distributors
- Lead value engineering exercises
- Attend site visits, construction reviews, inspections, commissioning and witness testing
- Act as Team Leader where appropriate, managing project planning, coordination, resources, quality, programme and commercial performance
- Establish work plans, objectives, deliverables, resource requirements and priorities
- Manage project risks, opportunities, fees, scope, resources and programmes
- Undertake quality assurance reviews and support consistent design standards and methodologies
- Participate in audits and improve technical workflows, tools and resources
- Mentor consultants and provide technical guidance, training and coaching
- Develop relationships with clients and project partners
- Represent Charcoalblue through conferences, presentations, publications, training sessions and industry opportunities
- Support business development, innovation and development of new services
- Share sector knowledge, market intelligence, emerging technologies and project lessons learned
- Collaborate with internal and external design and project teams
- Exercise professional judgement and escalate significant risks and decisions
- Undertake occasional domestic and international travel
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant and demonstrable experience working in live performance venues
- Minimum 3 years of experience working as a technical systems designer or consultant
- High experience in computer drafting
- Proficiency in REVIT preferred; Vectorworks or AutoCAD experience considered
- Professional experience with Microsoft Office and GSuite products
- Professional experience with Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam Revu
- Experience designing, specifying and commissioning audiovisual infrastructure or performance systems
- Experience using CAD drawing tools for audiovisual systems
- Expert-level knowledge of audiovisual systems
- Strong knowledge of stage lighting, networking, infrastructure and systems integration
- Good understanding of broadcast, streaming, lecture room and presentation technologies
- Ability to use Windows OS as the primary daily workstation
- Relevant higher education qualification, technical theatre training and/or professional industry qualifications such as AVIXA, or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrable experience as lead or primary stage lighting and/or audiovisual systems designer across design, documentation, construction and commissioning phases
- Strong practical understanding of stage lighting and/or audiovisual design, network architecture, infrastructure, systems integration, and relevant Health & Safety, electrical and industry regulations
- Experience developing and reviewing technical and contract documentation
- Knowledge of theatre, performing arts and live performance buildings
- Experience with architectural lighting and/or audiovisual immersive environment installations
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and distributed global teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines
- Ability to lead technical workstreams, mentor colleagues and own quality and delivery
- Commercial awareness, including project resources, budgets, fees and scope
- Willingness to undertake occasional domestic and international travel
- UK-based and able to work from London or Bristol
