About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide primary financial aid counseling to a diverse population of students and families
- Advise on financial aid programs and options, award packages, grants, scholarships, and loans
- Assist students with FAFSA completion and review financial aid documentation
- Maintain regular contact with students regarding progress and performance
- Implement strategic priorities related to retention, enrollment, and compliance
- Counsel and support individuals through individual and group sessions
- Educate individuals on institutional resources, policies, procedures, and expectations
- Implement technology-based solutions to promote efficiency, access, and success
- Support department-wide and student services initiatives
- Maintain accurate documentation and records in compliance with institutional, accreditation, and federal requirements
- Collaborate with admissions, the bursar, colleagues, and department leadership to increase engagement, retention, and success
- Provide referrals for personal, social, and academic concerns that may impair success
- Uphold confidentiality and comply with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and federal regulations
- Assist with planning and coordination of financial aid workshops, outreach activities, presentations, and events
- Maintain tools, systems, and resources necessary to perform job duties, including updating student information systems
- Remain current on relevant state and federal guidelines, emerging best practices, and research
- Monitor and resolve student account balances
- Complete required annual professional development and training
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s degree in finance or business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in financial aid, student services, or a customer-facing administrative role
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, listening, and public presentation skills
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment and manage multiple priorities and changing assignments
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in verbal and written formats
- Ability to use technology to support services, including Microsoft Office, student information systems, and learning platforms
- Detail-oriented and approachable demeanor
- Familiarity with financial aid management systems and federal/state regulations preferred
- Experience working in higher education preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, education, or a related field preferred

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records in compliance with institutional, accreditation, and federal requirements
