About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP
- Lead technical accounting training across the organization
- Review monthly close workpapers, reconciliations, and financial statements for accuracy, completeness, U.S. GAAP, and firm procedures
- Evaluate support for significant balances, estimates, unusual transactions, and accounting conclusions
- Document review comments, explain accounting rationale, follow up with preparers, and verify corrections
- Review year-end schedules and supporting workpapers for external audits
- Help engagement teams resolve accounting questions and improve audit readiness
- Track review status and recurring issues; report results and capacity concerns to the Manager
- Serve as a technical resource for nonprofit accounting matters
- Research accounting questions using authoritative guidance and prepare memoranda
- Monitor accounting developments and update policies, close checklists, templates, and training materials
- Develop and present internal training and approved client-facing education
- Convert recurring review findings into coaching, job aids, case studies, and refresher training
- Support role-based learning and onboarding of new team members
- Develop reusable curriculum and maintain courses and resources in the content library or learning platform
- Prepare CPE content and maintain documentation in accordance with AICPA/NASBA standards and firm procedures
- Support attendance verification, evaluations, certificates, and records
- Coach accountants and reviewers on technical judgment, documentation, self-review, and resolving review comments
- Coordinate assigned review work and training projects
- Provide performance input on assigned team members
- Contribute webinar materials, articles, and client resources
- Maintain version control and update technical resources when guidance or procedures change
- Use approved accounting, workflow, analytics, and AI tools to improve efficiency
- Validate outputs, confirm authoritative sources, document conclusions, and protect client information
- Participate in process improvements and related projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- CPA license required
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP
- Minimum of three years of nonprofit accounting experience
- Minimum of five years of general ledger accounting experience
- Minimum of three years of public accounting experience preferred
- Experience in audit preparation and management
- Ability to thrive in a virtual team-oriented environment
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and multiple accounting software platforms
- Successful history of remote work
- Candidates must be based in the United States
- Residents of California are not currently eligible due to business and regulatory requirements
