About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own and scale the performance marketing engine across App Store Ads, Android Ads, Meta, YouTube, and other channels
  • Build incrementality testing, saturation modeling, and 7-day ROAS and LTV frameworks
  • Scale creative production through content, partnerships, UGC agencies, and creator strategies
  • Build testing infrastructure to identify winning creative and channels quickly
  • Optimize through DSPs and AdTech partners, including LiftOff, AdFuel, and Eyeo
  • Manage and grow relationships with advertising partners
  • Translate channel performance into LTV- and ROI-backed budget plans with leadership
  • Operate transparently through async Slack communication, sharing results and reasoning
  • Own budgets, vendor contracts, and ad account setup across Meta, Google, App Store, and DSP platforms
  • Maintain clean and trustworthy attribution and tracking using AppsFlyer and related tools
  • Collaborate with social media and growth teams
  • Adjust spend based on tournaments, viral moments, product launches, seasonal patterns, and other demand cycles

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Love of chess and desire to help others discover the joy of chess
  • Extensive experience running paid acquisition for a consumer app or subscription business
  • 5+ years in performance marketing or paid user acquisition
  • Track record of taking a channel from test to scale
  • Judgment to hold, cut, or reallocate spend as efficiency changes
  • Experience with incrementality testing, saturation analysis, and LTV/ROAS modeling
  • Hands-on expertise across Meta, Google/App Store Ads, YouTube, and DSP/AdTech platforms
  • Fluency with mobile attribution tools such as AppsFlyer
  • Familiarity with content and social media trends
  • High-velocity written communication skills
  • Preferred: background in gaming, subscription, or high-engagement consumer apps
  • Preferred: experience scaling creative production through UGC agencies, creator marketplaces, or an in-house creator network
  • Preferred: experience syncing paid spend with organic demand cycles
  • Preferred: experience discussing budget and ROI cases with executive leadership or a board
  • Ability to work with significant overlap with United States Eastern and Pacific time zones
