About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage and operate baseball technology for one of the Chicago Cubs' minor league affiliates
  • Collect, clean, manipulate, and deliver video and data
  • Analyze and research outputs from data collected throughout the season as requested by coaching staff and baseball operations
  • Complete remote work and training before Spring Training
  • Receive technical training in Arizona and operate core technologies during Spring Training and affiliate practices, bullpens, batting practice, and games
  • Monitor Hawk-Eye and other data acquisition software during home games
  • Calibrate and train pitches for advanced pitching machines
  • Operate BATS data collection software for select events
  • Map collected data to complete and accurate metadata using software, supplemental video, and baseball rules
  • Trim, map, and enhance videos using video editing software
  • Maintain, debug, and calibrate technology and hardware at the affiliate
  • Work with coaching staff and players to provide video, data, and other support
  • Administer specialized assessments and record results
  • Mark keyframes of high-speed pitching and hitting video
  • Travel with the team
  • Perform analysis of collected data as requested

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree and/or strong professional experience in a technological field
  • Strong general understanding of technology and computer software
  • Ability to learn and master baseball technologies such as Hawk-Eye, Trackman, BATS, Rapsodo, Blast Sensors, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize and troubleshoot various technologies
  • Aptitude to learn new technologies
  • Effective communication, including ability to articulate technical topics
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary
  • Ability to travel for affiliate road games
  • Experience with network/cloud sharing video and data
  • Working knowledge of advanced baseball statistics
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Python)
  • Experience with SQL
  • Passion for learning more about how to succeed in baseball
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Previous work experience in baseball
  • Certification in Rapsodo, Blast or similar technologies
