About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provides administrative support to patient care areas under supervision of a licensed professional
- Supports safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment
- Answers telephones and nurse call system, takes messages, routes calls, and notifies appropriate individuals
- Prints and posts on-call schedules, checks and sends faxes, and assigns/distributes/retrieves Voalte phones
- Assists with staff schedules, maintains and reconciles patient census, and performs electronic medical record quality control audits
- Assists licensed professional nurses with admission, transfer, and discharge processes
- Maintains and verifies patient information, assigns and sets beds, prepares code sheets and patient identification/allergy bands, and updates patient boards
- Assists with basic patient care, including medical and laboratory procedures, nutritional needs, daily activities, and patient transport
- Provides nursing-station coverage during critical periods such as assessments and rounds
- Provides and documents continuous visual monitoring of suicidal and at-risk patients
- Orders and maintains department and patient-care equipment and supplies
- Communicates shift-related information and supports prioritization and delivery of patient care
- Participates in continuous assessment and improvement of care and services
- Demonstrates age-specific competencies for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults
- Rounds on patients and families to ensure needs are met and concerns are resolved
- Transports labs, medications, blood products, and other requested items
Requirements
What you’ll need- No minimum experience required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) required within 30 days of employment
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician, or nursing student who has successfully completed one clinical rotation, or 1 year of clinical pediatric experience in a hospital setting (required for external candidates)
- Must satisfactorily complete all skills and requirements
- Competencies as defined by department must be completed within 6 months of employment
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and documentation of ongoing development and training
