About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supports all disciplines within the department by providing indirect and direct patient care activities
  • Supports safe patient care, services, and environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
  • Performs assigned tasks under delegation of a physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or physician assistant
  • Assists with basic patient care using age-appropriate standards, infection control, safety, and body mechanics
  • Completes assigned provider tasks and orders
  • Performs intake processes, including accurate vital signs
  • May perform phlebotomy, simple medication or vaccine administration, spirometry testing, and radiographs under physician direction
  • Prioritizes, delivers, and documents patient care
  • Performs multiple concurrent tasks in a stressful, fast-paced environment while maintaining customer service standards
  • Serves as liaison between patients/families and department staff
  • Performs administrative duties including office opening/closing, answering phones, maintaining waiting-room materials, restocking beverages, and updating wait-time boards
  • Complies with infection control, safety, and OSHA procedures and regulations
  • Demonstrates age-specific competencies for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and all ages

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1 year of experience in the role of medical assistant, patient care tech or equivalent, or completion of Medical Assistant Externship at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
  • 1 year experience in pediatrics preferred, including obtaining vitals, assisting clinical staff with patient care, phlebotomy, and specimen collection procedures
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a medical assistant training program from an accredited school, or emergency medical technician or hospital or physician office-based training as a patient care technician or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Initial competencies as defined by department completed within 3 months of employment
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Must pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher within 30 days of employment
