About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors
- Dust and wipe down surfaces, furniture, windowsills, and fixtures
- Empty and sanitize waste bins and replace liners
- Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, and restroom fixtures
- Replenish toilet paper, soap, and paper towels
- Ensure restrooms are hygienic and odor-free
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces regularly
- Perform scheduled deep-cleaning tasks, including carpets, windows, floor stripping, and waxing
- Handle spills and accidents promptly and safely
- Use cleaning equipment properly and report malfunctions or needed repairs
- Monitor and restock cleaning supplies
- Follow procedures for handling cleaning chemicals and hazardous materials
- Wear appropriate PPE and adhere to safety protocols
- Maintain neat and organized storage areas
- Report maintenance issues to the supervisor
- Communicate with staff and follow daily task lists or supervisor instructions
- Help maintain a clean and safe school learning environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- No formal education required, though basic literacy and numeracy are helpful
- Previous experience in cleaning or janitorial work is preferred, especially in school, childcare, or similar environments
- Attention to detail
- Time management
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques, including disinfecting surfaces, cleaning various floor types, and handling spills
- Ability to safely operate vacuums, floor scrubbers, mops, and other cleaning tools
- Familiarity with proper handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and adherence to safety protocols
- Consistent attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work cooperatively with school staff and other cleaning team members
- Must follow safeguarding and Health & Safety procedures
- Subject to appropriate vetting procedures, references, and satisfactory Criminal Background Checks or equivalent covering the previous 10 years’ employment history
