About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Partner with customers to achieve retail sales goals and execute sales
  • Identify opportunities to provide consultative services for businesses and customers
  • Apply fundamental sales principles and practices
  • Acquire product, customer, industry, and company infrastructure knowledge to improve sales, marketing, and consulting skills
  • Act on opportunities or refer them to more experienced staff and shadow the process
  • Develop lists of current and prospective customers
  • Call on customers, represent the assigned co-op, build relationships, and promote CHS products
  • Prepare basic bids and proposals and assist with moderate to complex bids and proposals
  • Develop or participate in developing straightforward customer presentations
  • Obtain information on market and industry trends, competitors, and sales programs
  • Build customer relationships through proactive service and prompt responses to customer needs
  • Build working knowledge of products
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture
  • Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance correcting unsafe actions or conditions
  • Lead initiatives to manage organizational change effectively
  • Adopt and integrate cutting-edge technologies to drive innovation and competitiveness
  • Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma and/or GED
  • Knowledge of sales, business development, business operations or related experience
  • Agronomy sales experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in agriculture, business, or related field
  • Outside sales experience including presentations, persuasive negotiation skills, customer service, conflict resolution, and working independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Strong mathematical aptitude
  • Ability to formulate precise fertilizer and chemical applications
  • Ability to proactively approach sales and customer service
  • Must follow safety policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Selected candidates may be required to pass pre-employment screenings, including drug, criminal, motor vehicle, physical requirements, and FMCSA Clearinghouse checks
