About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Participate in a comprehensive development program focused on oilseed processing, ethanol production, operations and engineering processes
  • Rotate through oilseed and ethanol operations for 8 months at Annawan, Illinois, Fairmont, Minnesota or Evansville, Wisconsin
  • Contribute to day-to-day physical operation of CHS facilities
  • Develop understanding of operational processes
  • Support prioritization and optimization of key performance indicators
  • Support and guide plant management with projects, drawing reviews, equipment specifications, operational narratives and employee training
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts
  • Review production data for accuracy and facility improvements
  • Complete an 8-month engineering rotation in Annawan, Illinois
  • Plan design and development projects by preparing engineering documents, calculations, drawings, material lists, construction schedules and operating instructions
  • Optimize processing efficiency and reduce energy and material costs while adhering to safety requirements
  • Provide project management support and supervise construction crews
  • Coordinate project communications with supervisors, engineering teams, facility department managers and outside consulting agencies
  • Travel to other CHS locations, including corporate headquarters in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, for instructional purposes and continued growth
  • Transition into a full-time Operations Project Engineer position or a related role after successful completion of the program

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Agriculture, Chemical, Mechanical, Bioproducts and Biosystems, etc.)
  • 0-3 years’ experience
  • Basic understanding of refinery process controls and specific equipment involved in the process control
  • Demonstrate and promote safety
  • Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, ambiguity, adversity, and change
  • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
  • Must be well organized, goal orientated, and self-directed
  • Demonstrates mechanical and analytical interest with strong problem-solving skills
  • Collaborative team player
  • Willingness to relocate for future growth opportunities and/or business demands is required
