About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Acquire and develop strategic Sponsor relationships and generate new business
  • Screen Private Equity Sponsors against CIBC’s quantitative and qualitative relationship metrics
  • Conduct ongoing Sponsor diligence using third-party reference checks and data aggregation sources
  • Build trusted-advisor relationships through regular Sponsor/client contact
  • Identify opportunities for additional credit and non-credit services
  • Serve as the primary internal subject matter expert for Sponsor relationship and credit needs
  • Promote CIBC’s brand within the Sponsor community and industry associations
  • Assist with structuring new opportunities and communicate Sponsor expectations and Bank requirements
  • Collaborate with commercial Relationship Managers, Leveraged Finance Underwriters, and credit officers
  • Maintain CRM tracking for pipeline forecasting and relationship development strategies
  • Guide credit events for new strategic relationships and support analysis and deal approval
  • Participate in opportunity screening discussions
  • Maintain communication with clients as opportunities progress through fulfillment
  • Assist with deal negotiation when issues arise
  • Participate in internal Sponsor pipeline meetings
  • Participate in portfolio reviews and portfolio management
  • Lead screening and periodic reviews of assigned Sponsor relationships

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years of experience in Leverage Finance
  • Skilled in loan structuring and business development
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
  • Knowledge of valuation techniques and cash flow analysis
  • Proven track record of developing and managing client relationships in commercial banking
  • Expertise in credit quality management
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Ability to analyze financial statements, cash flow, and valuation
  • Collaborative mindset for client service and internal/external partnerships
  • Active engagement in industry events to maintain market knowledge and relationships
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Completion of a Commercial Banking Training Program or equivalent is desirable
  • Legally eligible to work at the specified location(s)
