About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build AI-natively, using AI as the default starting point for approaching and solving engineering problems
  • Own and harden the ClickHouse-based storage layer
  • Design schemas for known and emerging access patterns
  • Tune ingestion and query performance for production-scale data
  • Design and own ingestion from event streams and durable Temporal workflows
  • Ensure data arrives reliably, remains queryable in transit, and does not slow critical-path services
  • Evolve the platform into the default path for historical queries
  • Build indexing, caching, and tiered storage for performance
  • Lead design discussions, document architecture decisions, and determine data-domain migration priorities
  • Use Honeycomb, Datadog, and Rollbar to monitor ingestion lag, query latency, and data correctness
  • Take ambiguous data problems from design through production
  • Fix immediate issues and address the underlying team practice, process, or system

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Daily use of AI tools and ability to discuss how they have changed engineering approaches and where they fall short
  • Experience building or owning data-intensive systems, ingestion pipelines, event-driven architectures, or analytical and time-series datastores
  • Understanding of tradeoffs between transactional and analytical storage
  • Experience designing schemas and tuning queries for high-volume workloads
  • Experience with ClickHouse or another columnar database is a strong plus
  • Strong Go skills, or strong comparable-language skills with willingness to work in Go
  • Go interface design, data modeling, service integration, and concurrency
  • Familiarity with React and TypeScript is a plus
  • Understanding of delivery guarantees, idempotency, backpressure, and failure recovery
  • Experience leading the design of complex systems and making deliberate tradeoffs
  • Experience raising quality through reviews, mentoring, and direct feedback
  • 5+ years building and operating production backend systems
  • Experience serving real users and treating latency, reliability, and correctness as design concerns

Benefits

Comp & perks
  • Reasonable accommodation for applicants and employees with disabilities
  • Equal employment opportunity and affirmative action
  • Ability to request human-only application review
  • Ability to opt out of AI interview note-taking without affecting candidacy
