About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform product tear-downs and competitive analysis
  • Reverse engineer electronic gadgets to determine sub-system and IC functions
  • Collect measurement data to determine key behavior and characteristics
  • Analyze overall systems, subsystems, and specific ICs in smartphones, tablets, hearables, wearables, smart home, and automotive infotainment devices
  • Identify areas of interest, select analytical techniques, and evaluate results
  • Compose and perform test experiments to determine system and IC performance
  • Collaborate with Systems, Design, and Marketing subject matter experts
  • Deliver assessments of electronic, electro-mechanical, and mechanical subsystems and components, including connectivity diagrams and circuit schematics where possible
  • Assess product architectures and design choices
  • Provide material lists with estimated passive component and IC costs/pricing
  • Assess competitive IC capabilities and physical analog/digital/memory structures
  • Analyze HW/FW/SW interactions, algorithms, and protocols
  • Develop equipment and techniques for analyzing new devices and technologies
  • Engage external data sources, services, contractors, or outsourced functions as needed
  • Produce reports and build a competitive database
  • Monitor competitor news and new electronics products/technology
  • Communicate ideas and specifications to technical audiences
  • Autonomously manage tasks and competing priorities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of experience reverse engineering devices and circuits with lab experience in system and device-level functional testing
  • Experience with multiple applications/technology used in electronic products such as audio, autofocus and optical image stabilization, voice coil or other motor drive/control, MEMS, inertial/light/pressure/magnetic/touch/force/temperature sensors, haptics, wireless radios/protocols, USB or other complex serial bus protocols
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and optimistic attitude to addressing challenges
  • Exceptional written, verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to succinctly compile and compose written reports
  • Task and detailed oriented; very organized
  • Dynamic and able to learn quickly, self-starter, and unafraid to ask questions
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.
  • Candidates must be able to access technical data without a requirement for an export license
  • Preferred: Knowledge of semiconductor device physics
  • Preferred: Knowledge of closed loop control and adaptive algorithms
  • Preferred: Understanding of kernel level coding and debugging and device drivers
  • Preferred: Programming or macro/script development experience
