About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Underwrite and process loans for new bank clients and new commercial real estate loans for existing clients
  • Underwrite loan renewals as workflow requires
  • Maintain loan quality control and administer assigned loan portfolios
  • Underwrite and process complex commercial real estate credits, construction projects, and specialty property assets
  • Process renewals and modifications of existing credits
  • Perform or oversee timely annual loan reviews
  • Monitor loan covenants and assess changes in risk based on market and industry conditions
  • Monitor, maintain, and potentially grow loan portfolios with Relationship Managers
  • Support Relationship Managers in sales efforts, client and prospect calls, market research, and client-oriented projects
  • Maintain knowledge of client relationships and prospect opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, credit policy, and regulatory requirements
  • Structure and underwrite new credit requests and prepare credit approval packages
  • Aggregate credit relationship details and perform quality control of supporting analyses
  • Gather client financial information for underwriting and portfolio servicing assignments
  • Advise the Real Estate Risk Director on adverse changes in loan risk profiles
  • Document risk rating changes and Watch List Action Plans and support transfers of underperforming credits to Asset Recovery
  • Participate in reviews by bank examiners, auditors, and loan review staff
  • Participate in industry associations, seminars, and activities
  • Conduct ad hoc projects as directed by risk leadership

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years of commercial real estate underwriting and/or portfolio management, preferably with OCC regulated institutions
  • Construction underwriting experience a plus
  • C&I experience with owner-occupied real estate a plus
  • Computer literate; fluency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel analysis required
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective report writing and other written communication skills
  • Detailed-oriented and organized
  • Ability to solve problems, make decisions, juggle underwriting of multiple deals, prioritize tasks, and meet required deadlines
  • Ability to highlight loan risks or problems or questions during deal underwriting and before finalizing analysis
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and confidently based upon analysis
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Clear verbal communication with internal and external customers and third-party participants as needed
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external work relationships
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
