About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, program, and commission SCADA-based automated control systems
  • Perform design, installation, integration, configuration, diagnosis, security, and commissioning of Industrial Control Systems for water and wastewater utilities
  • Provide electrical, instrumentation, and control system expertise
  • Support process control improvements by identifying, testing, and implementing improvements with stakeholders
  • Provide technical support during design, construction, and startup of capital infrastructure projects
  • Participate in capital improvement project meetings and review project design documentation
  • Coordinate internal and/or contract electrical and instrumentation staff
  • Troubleshoot and support plant control systems, instrumentation, motor control equipment, power distribution equipment, UV systems, and SCADA
  • Commission new equipment and train plant operations and maintenance staff
  • Develop electrical and control system standards
  • Participate in procurement of goods and services and perform purchasing-related administrative duties
  • Prepare CAD electrical drawings and technical documentation
  • Develop and modify HMI/SCADA systems, including graphics, tag databases, reports, computer setup, field checkout, troubleshooting, and operator training
  • Create and maintain servers, data storage, network equipment, firewalls, operating systems, and utility programs
  • Plan, organize, administer, and maintain SCADA software and associated hardware
  • Review and write code for PLC, SCADA, and HMI applications
  • Generate reports and assist operations staff with software and hardware issues
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited school
  • Master’s degree with three (3) years of related work experience, preferably with experience in position-related software
  • Five (5) years of related work experience, preferably with experience in position-related software
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Must obtain and maintain a City Driver’s Permit
  • Professional Engineer in NC
  • Three years of experience as a SCADA/ICS Engineer, Process Control Engineer, Automation Engineer, Controls Systems Technician, or similarly related duties
  • Extensive PC hardware knowledge and general computer maintenance capabilities
  • Knowledge of Modicon PLCs, AutomationDirect PLCs, and Ignition software
  • Ability to work around chemicals, solvents, and dust in an industrial environment
  • Ability to obtain a City driving permit
  • Ability to perform required physical demands, including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Must pass background checks, pre-employment drug screening, and physical examination
