About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead delivery of built environment projects across the UK in residential, education, commercial development and regeneration sectors
- Lead structural engineering design
- Identify problems and opportunities and direct others in assessing and resolving them
- Coordinate and review drawings, presentations and written reports
- Self-check work and check others’ work
- Oversee preparation and presentation of technical data
- Oversee effective use of analysis and modelling software for design
- Conduct internal project reviews across the practice
- Comply with Designer duties under the CDM Regulations 2015 and the practice QMS
- Lead multiple projects concurrently, managing programmes, deliverables, resources and fees
- Liaise with senior project team members and clients through meetings, calls and correspondence
- Manage expectations and escalate significant matters to directors
- Allocate project resources and forward-plan to meet deliverables
- Manage, mentor and develop direct and wider studio team members
- Deliver presentations for the Civic Academy
- Maintain team and project financial and commercial awareness
- Contribute to business analysis, planning and strategy
- Assist Associate Directors with team business development
- Attend and represent the team at internal business development reporting meetings
- Develop and maintain an industry network
- Build relationships with existing clients
- Identify opportunities and agree pursuit strategies with directors
- Win work through existing and new clients and collaborators
- Attend networking activities and industry events, sometimes outside normal business hours
- Write and follow up bids and fee proposals to convert opportunities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Chartered structural engineer
- Demonstrated skill managing a team of engineers and technicians
- Proven ability to support Associate Directors and Director teams with workload and people management, business development and bidding
- Established network of industry contacts and ability to generate new business opportunities
- Overview of other disciplines within Civic
- Comfortable representing the practice at external meetings and discussing and selling services
- Interest in architecture and the wider public realm/built environment
- Ability to lead delivery of built environment projects across the UK in residential, education, commercial development and regeneration sectors
- Ability to lead structural engineering design
- Ability to identify problems and opportunities and direct others in resolving them using qualitative and quantitative measures
- Ability to coordinate and review high-quality drawings, presentations and written reports
- Ability to self-check and check others’ work
- Ability to oversee technical data preparation and presentation
- Experience overseeing analysis and modelling software for design
- Ability to conduct internal project reviews
- Compliance with Designer duties under CDM Regulations 2015
