About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Carry out quantitative and qualitative assessments of nature-based solutions carbon projects at diverse development stages
- Assess the robustness of carbon accounting
- Develop assessment frameworks and carbon accounting methodologies for nature-based solutions carbon projects
- Compile and analyze data on carbon projects and carbon markets
- Develop quantitative and spatial analysis, modelling, and data visualization using GIS, spreadsheets, and programming languages
- Support development of corporate GHG inventories in the land use space
- Analyze value chain decarbonization options
- Collaborate with and contribute results to multidisciplinary teams
- Summarize conclusions and recommendations for investors, buyers, and project developers
- Take charge of and support management of Climate Focus projects
- Support expansion of Climate Focus’s project pipeline
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s degree in forestry, agronomy, ecology, soil science, remote sensing, climate science, or a related field
- At least 5 years of professional experience related to carbon projects and/or carbon accounting related to NBS
- Relevant PhD research will be considered equivalent to professional experience
- Outstanding quantitative research and analytical skills
- Proven experience working independently on large-scale geospatial datasets, quantitative modelling, statistics, and remote-sensing based data products
- Working knowledge of multiple data formats and software packages, such as Excel, QGIS, R, Python, GEE, and git
- Hands-on experience with the carbon project development cycle and greenhouse gas accounting is a strong asset
- Experience developing carbon accounting methodologies and/or carbon MRV would be an advantage
- Familiarity with integrity initiatives under development in the voluntary carbon market
- Excellent writing, communication, and advisory skills, including tailoring clear messages to non-technical audiences
- Excellent organizational skills, including project management, time management, and coordination with project partners and clients
- Spoken and written fluency in English
- Willingness to travel internationally
- Solution-oriented self-starter able to perform in a dynamic environment with shifting deadlines and priorities
- Ability to work across disciplines and cultures
- Ability to quickly understand client needs and develop tailored solutions
