Key responsibilities & impact

Design and implement the core feature set of Apache Ozone and Apache Ratis
Contribute to HDFS development
Build massively scalable distributed object storage for thousands of nodes and tens of billions of objects
Solve deep systems-level engineering challenges
Directly contribute to open-source Apache projects
Help customer support solve critical escalations and develop a deep understanding of the Data Platform
Represent Cloudera and Apache Ozone at technical conferences and meetup events

Requirements

What you’ll need

BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science
Master's degree with 1–2 years or Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant industry experience
Strong backend engineering skill set with expertise in Java, or strong C++ skills with intermediate Java skills
Hands-on programming experience and good knowledge of data structures and computer science algorithms
Experience with system software design and development
Understanding of computer architecture, storage, network, and I/O subsystems
Clean coding habits, attention to detail, and focus on quality
Good oral and written communication
Experience with large-scale distributed systems design and development, scaling, replication, consistency, and high availability is a plus
Background in distributed storage systems, file systems, database storage internals, NoSQL storage, or distributed hash tables is a plus
Background in performance tuning, identifying performance bottlenecks, and implementing performance optimizations is a plus
Good understanding of Apache Hadoop is a plus
Recognized contributions to open source projects are a plus
Experience with Apache Hadoop ecosystem projects such as MapReduce, HBase, Hive, or Spark is a plus
Understanding of Paxos, RAFT, or equivalent distributed consensus protocols is a plus
