About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead CloudMargin's Romania-based engineers through regular one-to-ones, wellbeing, engagement and day-to-day support
  • Own the performance and development cycle, including goal-setting, feedback, performance reviews, promotion cases and development plans
  • Partner with the CTO and technology leadership on organisational design, succession planning and growth of the Romania engineering group
  • Lead hiring for Romania-based engineering roles, including role definition, sourcing, interviewing and onboarding
  • Champion career progression through mentoring, learning and development budgets, stretch opportunities and cross-team moves
  • Handle local people matters with the People/HR function, including policies, absence, workplace concerns and formal processes
  • Build and protect local culture through team rituals, socials, community and an effective local working environment
  • Represent Romania in broader leadership conversations and communicate company strategy and decisions in both directions
  • Support distributed working across UK, Romania and Italy time zones
  • Contribute to retention through structured exit and stay conversations and follow-up actions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant experience (typically 5+ years) managing software engineers or other technical talent, including formal people leadership responsibility for performance and development
  • Experience leading people in a distributed or multi-site organisation, working with leadership based in another country
  • Track record of hiring technical talent, partnering with hiring leads and running interview processes
  • Working knowledge of Romanian employment practices and law, or demonstrable ability to get up to speed quickly with local HR/legal support
  • Fluent English and Romanian, written and spoken
  • Background in software engineering or another technical discipline is desirable
  • Experience in a scaling technology company or regulated environment such as FinTech or financial services is desirable
  • Experience establishing or growing an engineering site or hub for an international company is desirable
  • Uses AI tooling thoughtfully and protects confidential information appropriately
  • People management or HR qualifications are welcome but not essential
