About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop, maintain, and refactor applications across multiple PHP versions, primarily PHP 8.x
Build and extend Symfony applications using Doctrine ORM, Twig, and Composer
Develop responsive front-end features with Vue.js and jQuery using Ajax and npm
Design, query, and optimise MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL databases
Use AI-assisted development tools and integrate LLM-based capabilities where valuable
Design and consume REST APIs
Implement secure authentication and authorisation using OAuth, JWT, and SSO
Write and maintain PHPUnit automated tests
Deploy and operate applications on Linux servers with Apache or nginx
Troubleshoot issues across the application environment
Collaborate with the external service provider and Technical Business Analyst to transfer know-how and codebase ownership
Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, and technical documentation
Serve as a dedicated technical resource for an international supply chain, logistics, and print & packaging client

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of hands-on experience in PHP web development
Strong expertise in PHP, primarily 8.x, with confidence to work in legacy PHP codebases
Solid production experience with Symfony, Doctrine, Twig, and Composer
Hands-on experience with Vue.js, jQuery, Ajax-based interactions, and npm
Knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL, including query optimisation and schema design
Practical experience in AI-assisted coding and integrating AI services into applications
Experience building REST APIs and implementing OAuth, JWT, and SSO authentication methods
Experience writing unit and integration tests with PHPUnit
Working knowledge of Linux and Apache/nginx web server configuration
Proficiency with Git and Git-based platforms such as Gitea or GitLab
Strong written and spoken English
Ability to work effectively and proactively in a cross-border, distributed team
German language skills — an advantage, not a requirement
