About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct training sessions with internal and external instructors on NB1/NB2 biosafety practices
  • Develop content and activities for customized training programs
  • Contact and select external providers for courses, workshops, professional development programs, or technical information gathering
  • Provide technical guidance and identify training needs for NB1/NB2 teams
  • Deliver presentations and lead discussions on biosafety
  • Foster a culture of continuous biosafety competency development
  • Research and interpret national and international standards, including regulations related to GMOs
  • Ensure appropriate conditions in the training laboratory and the availability of safety equipment
  • Support the logistics, organization, and delivery of NB1/NB2 training programs
  • Provide support during technical discussions on NB1/NB2 biosafety
  • Participate in committees and working groups, including risk assessments and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (CIBio)
  • Participate in discussions and practical applications involving biological materials
  • Support the development and implementation of SOPs
  • Support inspections, audits, and certifications
  • Maintain records of training, risk assessments, procedures, audits, inspections, and incidents
  • Promote communication and collaboration across departments and teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences (Biology, Biomedicine, Medicine, or related fields)
  • Completed postgraduate degree in Biosafety, Microbiology, Good Laboratory Practices, or a related field
  • Strong experience teaching classes, lectures, and/or training programs
  • Strong experience providing training for work in NB1/NB2 laboratories
  • Scientific work experience in NB1/NB2 laboratories
  • Specific knowledge of national and international biosafety regulations, including GMO regulations
  • Knowledge of developing and delivering classes, lectures, and training programs
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of biosafety principles, Good Laboratory Practices, PPE, collective protective equipment, laboratory infrastructure, and procedures applicable to NB1/NB2 laboratories and GMOs
  • Extensive practical laboratory experience in biosafety, including prior scientific projects in NB1/NB2 microbiology laboratories
  • Practical knowledge of educational programs in the biological sciences
  • Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally (preferred)
  • Availability to attend domestic and/or international courses and training programs (preferred)
