About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Direct the tax function and align tax strategies with corporate business objectives
  • Advise the CFO and CAO on tax implications of investments, reinsurance transactions, and corporate structuring
  • Lead the end-to-end GAAP and Statutory tax accounting process
  • Ensure accuracy of quarterly and annual tax provisions, including Admitted Asset calculations under SSAP 101 for P&C entities
  • Oversee the U.S. consolidated Form 1120
  • Provide executive oversight of premium and surplus lines tax filings across multiple jurisdictions
  • Optimize retaliatory tax positions and credits
  • Liaise with Federal and State taxing authorities
  • Lead tax audit defense and manage the company’s tax risk profile
  • Evaluate and communicate the impact of emerging tax legislation on effective tax rate and capital position
  • Maintain tax reporting controls under SOX/MAR
  • Design and implement tax policies to mitigate operational risk and ensure global consistency
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory bodies
  • Lead and mentor the tax team
  • Leverage technology to drive automation and efficiency

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation (MST) required
  • Minimum of 12–15 years of progressive tax experience
  • Significant focus on the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance industry
  • Mastery of ASC 740 (GAAP) and SSAP 101 (Statutory)
  • Deep understanding of the P&C Yellow Book and insurance-specific tax law, including discounting of unpaid losses and PRTF
  • Proven track record of managing professional staff and leading cross-functional projects
  • Exceptional ability to translate complex technical tax concepts into actionable insights for non-tax executives and Board members
  • Advanced proficiency in enterprise tax software and advanced Excel modeling
