About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan and execute early childhood education experiences using varied materials
  • Promote children’s emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities with the director and teachers
  • Establish an environment promoting positive child and youth interactions
  • Provide and lead planned activities
  • Interact with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques
  • Maintain program participation data and complete required daily reports
  • Prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials
  • Monitor children in classrooms, playgrounds, hallways, restrooms, study halls, lunch areas, and bus loading areas
  • Maintain control of and account for children’s whereabouts and safety
  • Arrange and serve appropriate snacks and meals where applicable
  • Perform routine caregiving tasks and attend to children’s physical needs
  • Conduct health checks and ensure children’s safety and well-being
  • Interact professionally with staff, parents, and command
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Must be able to read, write and speak in English
  • One year of general experience working with children in a group program with children and/or youth
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds and over, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, stoop, and stand routinely
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete Tier 1 background investigation, including state checks, upon hiring and renew every 5 years
  • Ability to satisfactorily pass the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination at preplacement and every two years
  • Must be authorized to work in the US; non-U.S. nationals must meet U.S. residency requirements
  • Must satisfactorily complete Federal background checks and applicable pre-employment requirements
  • Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 and at least 18 must be registered with the Selective Service System unless exempt
  • Written resume or application must be submitted in English
  • Preferred: two years of education above high school, including 12 semester hours in relevant fields, or a one-year vocational certificate in childcare
