  • Maintain assigned areas in an orderly and clean condition
  • Vacuum rugs and draperies
  • Sweep, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors using industrial-type power equipment
  • Adjust and change buffers, brushes, and other power-equipment attachments
  • Dust, wax, and polish office furniture, ledges, and woodwork
  • Empty ashtrays and wastebaskets
  • Polish doorknobs and other metal fixtures
  • Clean glass partitions and inside and outside windows using stepladders and extension ladders
  • Maintain restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition
  • Clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, sinks, and toilet bowls
  • Clean mirrors and water fountains
  • Replace deodorizers, toilet tissues, hand towels, and soap
  • Report water leaks, clogged drains, and other maintenance conditions to the supervisor
  • Maintain cleaning-material supplies and advise the supervisor when supplies are needed or equipment requires repair or replacement
  • Perform seasonal tasks such as applying ice-control material, mowing grass, and watering lawns
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Work indoors usually and outdoors occasionally, with exposure to strong cleaning agents and fall hazards from slippery surfaces or ladders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the proper uses of a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions and how to remove different kinds of stains from a wide variety of surfaces
  • Must be able to clean and make adjustments to power cleaning equipment
  • Must occasionally lift 50 pounds or more
  • Non-U.S. nationals must have resided within the United States or U.S. territories for at least three of the last five years if authorized to work in the U.S. and applying for a DHS position
  • Must participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer
  • Males born after 12/31/59 and at least 18 years of age must be registered with the Selective Service System unless exempt
  • Must satisfactorily complete a Federal Background check and applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include security clearances, drug testing, and employment verification
  • Must submit a resume or other written application format in English
  • U.S. Citizenship or valid authorization to work in the U.S. required
  • May be required to meet specific job-related qualifications or certifications as a condition of employment
