About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Welcome customers and provide exceptional customer service
- Maintain product knowledge and assist customers with merchandise selection
- Respond quickly to customer concerns
- Sell merchandise and demonstrate or explain technical features of items sold
- Take periodic stock counts and participate in inventories
- Replenish stock and maintain merchandise in a neat, presentable condition
- Advise the supervisor or department head of customer requests
- Operate the cash register and accept cash, checks, credit cards, debit cards, and gift cards
- Give change accurately and balance the till at the end of the shift
- Submit sales records, money, stamps, customer checks, charge slips, and account for merchandise sold
- Perform price changes, markdowns, markups, company promotions, displays, signage, and item-label changes
- Follow loss-prevention policies and remain proactive regarding shrink and the Alert Line
- Follow safety standards and emergency preparedness requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school coursework, a GED, or high school diploma
- Ability to read, comprehend, and explain product literature
- Ability to count, subtract, multiply, and divide for stocking and inventory purposes
- Ability to routinely lift 10 pounds and occasionally lift 25 pounds
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Must be willing to work weekends
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Non-U.S. nationals must have resided within the United States or U.S. territories for at least three of the last five years
- Satisfactory completion of a federal background check and applicable pre-employment requirements
- Direct deposit/electronic funds transfer participation required
- Males born after 12/31/59 and at least 18 years old must be registered with the Selective Service System unless exempt
- Previous retail merchandising or cashier experience preferred
