About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own key aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and account analysis for assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Manage accounting for payroll, employee benefits, accounts payable and accrued expenses, and other operating expense areas, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Review and analyze monthly operating expenses, investigate variances, and prepare supporting schedules and documentation for management reporting
  • Review and approve vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and other expenditures in accordance with company policies and internal controls
  • Assist with audit schedules and support external audits, SOX compliance activities, 401(k) audits, workers' compensation audits, and other regulatory reporting requirements
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and development of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Oversee accurate and timely processing of U.S. and international payrolls through third-party payroll providers
  • Review payroll registers, funding reports, tax filings, direct deposits, and payroll reconciliations before payroll transmission
  • Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations, including wages, taxes, bonuses, commissions, equity compensation, employee benefits, and related accruals
  • Own quarterly and year-end payroll reconciliations, including W-2 reporting and payroll tax filings
  • Serve as primary contact for employee payroll inquiries and partner with HR and Benefits teams to resolve issues
  • Collaborate with payroll vendors and system administrators to maintain payroll systems, implement process improvements, and ensure timely funding and administration of payroll-related benefit programs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in General Accounting and Payroll operations
  • Public company experience is a plus
  • Must be able to work independently to plan and prioritize own workload while maintaining exceptional accuracy within strict deadlines
  • Expert knowledge of the payroll functions and processes
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Outlook skills, including experience with VLookup, Pivot Tables, Functions, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of Paylocity and Time & Labor systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, and international payroll requirements
