About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Join Cogna's team building the future of software and natural language programming
- Work on technical challenges in software engineering, programming languages, and AI
- Develop methods to elicit requirements from end users
- Generate full-stack code, automated tests, verifiable code, and secure deployments
- Repair faults and maintain and revise software over time
- Build a working system with customers and extend it based on feedback from real examples
- Engage in real-world projects alongside the product team
- Contribute to the quality of Cogna's product pipeline under the close guidance of an engineering mentor
- Complete a minimum 16-week internship during summer 2027 at Cogna's central London offices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Achieved or nearing completion of masters degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent experience
- Preferred: nearing completion of a PhD-level degree in area of research that analyses or synthesises code, or AI for code
- Excellent coding skills in strongly-typed languages such as C++, C#, Java, Rust, Golang, Haskell, Ocaml, TypeScript, typed Python or equivalent experience
- Strong interest in experimenting with AI and current agentic tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent)
- Preferred: solid grasp of LLM fundamentals and how to use them well: prompting, tool use, evaluation, and failure modes
- Keen to work at the cutting edge of AI-native software development; preferable if demonstrated through research, a personal project, or published work
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Existing right to live and work in the UK
