About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide technical support for customer issues and inquiries
Work with internal teams to resolve customer issues and complete root cause analysis
Support PLM and Quality team customer interactions
Review PLM and R&D product specifications and provide real-world feedback for new product development
Review or propose test scope and detailed plans
Conduct pre-testing with R&D to ensure trial success
Perform testing at customer sites as required
Support customer lab trials and pre-sales technical inquiries
Assess and prioritize customer field issues
Coordinate with frontline support and R&D teams to resolve complex customer issues
Track issues from record creation through resolution and closure
Provide new product installation and operation training to frontline customer support teams
Provide technical customer installation and operating documentation
Provide training for internal teams and external customers
Travel to support North American and European customers

Requirements

What you’ll need

M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Physics
8+ years working experience in optical communication companies as technical support manager or engineer, development engineer or system verification engineer
Experience with coherent optical transceivers, DWDM, OTN, optical network architectures, and network management protocols
Experience investigating field issues and RMA support
Experience using and troubleshooting network management systems
Python scripting experience preferred
Product development experience preferred
Travel 25% to 33% of the time
7x24 on-call support
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Creative, analytical and structured problem-solving capability
Team-oriented and self-starter
Ability to work in a climate-controlled professional office environment and use standard office equipment
Required to follow site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards
Depending on location, responsibility for applicable ISO 9000, 9001, 14001 and/or other standards within quality and environmental management systems
