About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan, direct, and ensure the delivery of services related to compensation, payroll, HR information systems, employee record operations, data integrity, and HR analytics
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate staff; establish priorities, allocate work, and support team development
- Participate in developing strategic directions, budgets, projects, and HR deliverables
- Establish and maintain governance, internal controls, quality assurance, and risk management
- Lead or contribute to institutional and cross-functional projects related to compensation, payroll, HR systems, data, and process improvement
- Plan, administer, and evaluate compensation programs
- Lead and oversee the entire payroll cycle, including controls, reconciliations, remittances, filings, and tax slips
- Establish and lead the HR information systems roadmap, particularly Workday
- Oversee hiring transactions, configurations, testing, validation, deployment, change management, and systems documentation
- Ensure the integrity, confidentiality, security, and interoperability of HR data and systems
- Oversee reports, dashboards, and analyses on workforce, compensation, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, diversity, training, and performance
- Prepare and present decision-support reports and make recommendations to senior leadership and relevant governing bodies
- Oversee verification of employees’ eligibility to work in Canada and coordinate work permit and immigration-related processes
- Collaborate with Labour Relations, Finance, IT, auditors, vendors, and other stakeholders
Requirements
What you’ll need- Four-year degree in human resources, business administration, finance, accounting, management information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Minimum of seven years of relevant experience
- In-depth knowledge of payroll and compensation principles, practices, and legislative requirements applicable in Canada and Ontario
- Strong knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, collective agreements, terms and conditions of employment, policies, and directives
- In-depth knowledge of HR and payroll information systems, governance and data integrity, confidentiality, and access security
- Excellent technology skills, including Microsoft 365, databases, and reporting and analytics tools
- Ability to translate operational needs into functional requirements and oversee testing, validation, and implementation of changes
- Ability to establish and apply internal control mechanisms
- Ability to lead and develop a team, establish priorities, manage projects, and support change
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, risk assessment, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, consultation, coaching, negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution, and collaboration skills
- Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written
- Understanding of the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility
- CHRL, CHRP, PLP, or PCP designation is an asset
- Workday or HR information systems training or certification is an asset
- Knowledge of Workday is an asset
