About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead, develop, and manage the Health & Safety team
- Establish team priorities, performance expectations, and work plans aligned with organizational objectives
- Manage departmental budgets, resources, and staffing while supporting employee development, engagement, and succession planning
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve Alterra Experiences Division’s Health and Safety Management System
- Ensure compliance with applicable provincial, federal, and occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards
- Develop, review, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, manuals, programs, and documentation
- Identify safety risks, program gaps, and best-practice opportunities and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Oversee safety training, orientation, competency tracking, and documentation systems
- Support Joint Health and Safety Committees across operations
- Conduct and oversee safety inspections, audits, hazard assessments, ergonomic assessments, and compliance reviews
- Lead or oversee incident investigations, reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Monitor and verify corrective and preventive actions
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims management, return-to-work programs, and occupational injury case management
- Provide strategic health and safety advice to operational leaders, employees, and senior management
- Visit operating areas to promote safety culture and verify program implementation
- Lead or support emergency preparedness, emergency response, and critical incident management
- Advise senior leadership on significant safety risks, compliance issues, emerging trends, and operational impacts
- Represent Alterra Experiences Division with regulators, workers’ compensation boards, industry associations, safety organizations, and external stakeholders
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an occupational health & safety role
- Demonstrated experience with COR (Certificate of Recognition) certification, including preparing for and leading internal and external audits, developing health and safety management systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining certification requirements
- Proven ability to effectively plan and direct the work of the department
- Knowledge of worker’s compensation processes and procedures, including WorkSafeBC and WCB Alberta claims management and related legislation
- Experience with disability management, incident investigations, workplace inspections and hazard assessment
- Willingness to actively participate in continuous professional development
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality of information and records
- Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Post-secondary education in a related field
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn other relevant software platforms
- Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs
- Willingness to travel occasionally to Alterra Experience Division areas and industry functions
- Experience in the ski industry, preferred
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, preferred
