About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate with product management, engineering, and sales to understand market requests and translate them into design specifications.
  • Revise designs to improve manufacturability and ease of production.
  • Review and continuously improve design system standards.
  • Support mechanical and electrical product development and design activities.
  • Evaluate new technologies, materials, fastening methods, corrosion-resistant options, electrical principles, and strength analysis.
  • Develop 2D and 3D models and drawings of assemblies and components using CAD software.
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal departments regarding product inquiries and problems.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on design, testing, and documentation.
  • Train and assist engineers, technicians, and designers as a technical resource.
  • Coordinate with supply chain to specify appropriate and cost-effective components.
  • Prepare or direct calculations, equipment layouts, detail drawings, bills of material, and business-system component and equipment data.
  • Participate in manufacturing or building prototype components or products.
  • Develop testing criteria and parameters, compile test data, and evaluate component or equipment performance.
  • Address Engineering Change Requests, including ERP-related work.
  • Review failed components to determine probable causes and recommend preventive actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience, or a related combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of CAD experience in 3D design software required in either Solidworks and/or Pro-E.
  • ERP/MRP experience required.
  • Knowledge of steel alloys, strengths and tolerances preferred.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and quality principals preferred.
  • Ability to operate a variety of precision electronic measuring devices.
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to follow safety and work rules and regulations.
