About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Create, document, and implement procurement plans for new product development projects and current production
  • Identify, develop, and qualify suppliers of raw materials, fabricated parts, and components
  • Support procurement needs across engineered assemblies, hardware, coatings, castings, forgings, machined parts, electrical and electronic components
  • Drive strategic procurement decisions with Product Management, Engineering, and Quality
  • Collaborate and negotiate with suppliers on material cost, delivery conditions, payment terms, and service requirements
  • Lead “Buy vs. Make” decisions and analyze supplier capacity, commercial viability, logistics, financial strength, quality systems, management strength, technical support, and after-sales support
  • Collaborate on DFMEA, PFMEA, part/component qualification plans, PPAP, and quality plans
  • Locate and develop suppliers and drive supplier localization according to global sourcing strategies
  • Create supplier risk registers and mitigation plans
  • Collaborate on material and component specifications to improve cost or reduce supplier risk
  • Create project timelines, work packages, schedules, and project expense estimations
  • Support project communication plans
  • Create purchase orders, monitor supplier OTD, quality conformance, and supplier scorecards
  • Ensure sample purchase orders, PPAP requirements, trial builds, supplier OTD, and required documentation are completed on time

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain or equivalent experience and education
  • 5+ years of experience in procurement and/or strategic sourcing (supplier development)
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time
  • Organized, and high sense of urgency
  • Knowledge and skills in negotiation practices, industrial product costing, total-cost-of-ownership calculations and industrial commercial terms negotiation
  • Knowledge of mass production fabrication and assembly processes, ISO 9000/QS9000 certification requirements
  • Knowledge and ability to develop suppliers and procure from them in a low volume and high mix environment (LVHM)
  • Logistics knowledge, import/export concepts and practices, warehousing, and transportation
  • Basic knowledge of machining, casting, and forging processes
  • Basic knowledge of the steel and metal alloys industrial supply base
  • Knowledge of industrial electric motors and motor control elements and their respective supply bases
  • Basic knowledge of electric and electronic components
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing theory and practices
  • Ability to participate in kaizen events, Root-Cause-Counter-Measure (RCCM), and problem-solving 8D sessions
