About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build reliable metering for GPU compute and partner model APIs
  • Handle delayed events, retries, and partial failures so billable events are recorded once and attributed correctly
  • Improve checkout, subscriptions, credit top-ups, plan and seat changes, prorations, refunds, and failed-payment recovery
  • Keep Stripe, Metronome, and application state consistent across late events and partial system failures
  • Build automated reconciliation across usage records, invoices, payments, and credit balances
  • Detect discrepancies, provide audit trails, and safely recover missing credits after successful payments
  • Own production reliability and turn incidents into lasting improvements
  • Build reusable pricing and entitlement systems for individual creators, teams, and enterprise customers
  • Improve spend controls and detection of suspicious usage, payment fraud, and credit abuse
  • Partner with Product and frontend engineers on billing experiences
  • Build tools for Support, Sales, and Finance to investigate charges and resolve issues safely

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience building and operating billing or payments systems in production
  • Meaningful ownership of usage metering, credits, or consumption-based pricing
  • Direct Stripe integration experience, including subscription changes, invoices, webhooks, and payment failures
  • Understanding of idempotency, concurrent updates, reconciliation, rounding, and recovery after partial failure
  • Strong backend engineering experience
  • Experience with relational data modeling and reliable APIs
  • Ability to explain technical tradeoffs to Finance, Product, and Support
  • Ownership from problem definition through rollout and operation
  • Effective use of AI development tools with careful verification
  • Bonus: experience with Metronome, Orb, or similar metering platforms
  • Bonus: experience building durable workflows with Temporal
  • Bonus: experience billing GPU infrastructure or model APIs
  • Bonus: experience with spend limits or defenses against card testing, chargeback abuse, or trial and promotional-credit abuse
  • Bonus: experience improving international checkout, payment-method coverage, or payment authorization rates
  • Bonus: experience using ComfyUI, contributing to open source, or building tools for creative professionals
  • Willingness/ability to work in person in San Francisco
