About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform fiber splicing and prepare, install, and repair single fiber optic cable using fusion splicing equipment
  • Perform specialized splicing techniques applicable to OPGW work and complete required testing
  • Travel to assigned job locations and perform testing and closeout packages for the entire assigned route
  • Access panels through manholes and/or hand holes at job sites
  • Identify fiber cable types within fiber cases and determine fibers to be used
  • Splice fiber optic cable using a fusion splicer across indoor and outdoor elements
  • Repair fiber optic cable as required
  • Document and maintain accurate splicing records and job site notes
  • Perform OTDR testing processes
  • Comply with all safety standards and protocols
  • Maintain the company vehicle, inventory, and small tools
  • Follow administrative processes and procedures
  • Keep current with fiber optic design and splicing processes, tools, and techniques
  • Protect company proprietary information confidentially
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Technical degree in line work or fiber engineering or the equivalent in training and/or work experience
  • Minimum of 2 years demonstrated splicing work experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OPGW processes and procedures
  • Experience using Fujikura fusion splicing equipment and OTDR testing equipment
  • Strong problem solving, decision making, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written procedures
  • Ability to work from an aerial lift truck and/or ladder
  • Ability to use light source and power meters
  • Experience using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Position requires driving between work sites
  • Travel is required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug tests as required
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, manholes, narrow aisles, and passageways
  • Frequent crouching and climbing requiring body agility
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move equipment and objects up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to meet physical requirements for ladders and bucket truck operating lifts
  • Visual acuity for computer work and finger dexterity for keyboarding and operating job equipment and hand tools
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Fast Reporter software
  • Preferred: Experience with Google Earth files
