About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Report to the Senior Director of Software Development
  • Design and develop web-based and mobile software products for Common App
  • Assist in software architecture design
  • Implement high-quality software products meeting the needs of the Common App community
  • Plan, develop, modify, and test software components using .NET technologies
  • Work within an Amazon Web Services and Agile development environment
  • Create new products and enhance existing software systems
  • Assist in managing the production system to support quality and the end-user experience
  • Mentor or provide direct guidance to other Software Developers
  • Evaluate complex proof of concepts and make recommendations on feasibility, risk, and scalability
  • Participate in cross-organizational working groups and activities supporting Common App culture

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Candidates must live in the United States or its territories
  • Willingness and ability to travel for periodic in-person events, including semi-annual Common App retreats, department retreats, and strategic leadership sessions
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5–8 years of experience in software development
  • Proficiency in Angular.js 2+, TypeScript, Microsoft .NET Core 2.0+, C#, Visual Studio IDE, ORM, HTML5, CSS3, and microservice-oriented architecture using Web API
  • Proficiency in managing state in Angular 2+ applications
  • Proficiency in SQL queries and stored procedures
  • Proficiency in development processes including GitHub repositories and branching strategy, code review, coding standards, and code deployment
  • Ability to evaluate and make recommendations based on complex proof of concepts, including feasibility, risk, and scalability considerations
  • Understanding of OWASP Top 10 security vulnerabilities and secure coding practices
  • Strong verbal and written communication and team collaboration skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to partner with leadership and HR to ensure equitable practices and experiences
  • Active participation in cross-organizational working groups and activities
  • AWS Cloud Services experience such as DynamoDB, ElastiCache, S3, Lambda, Bedrock, SageMaker, and Amazon Quick/QuickSight
  • Proficiency managing Angular 2+ application state using NGRX
  • Experience with mobile hybrid frameworks such as Ionic
  • CI/CD automation cloud experience
  • Experience building or integrating data science, machine learning, or early GenAI solutions from prototype through validated proof of concept
  • Proficiency in GenAI patterns including prompt design, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, and structured outputs/tool use
  • Understanding of AI-specific quality and security risks and mitigation/evaluation approaches, including basic observability practices
  • .NET or AWS certification; relevant AI/ML coursework, training, or certification
  • Passion for higher education is a plus
