About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Bring affirmative litigation on behalf of low- and moderate-income homeowners and mobile homeowners
  • Handle matters involving abusive lending practices, mortgage servicing errors, defective mobile homes, exploitative mobile home park practices, fair housing, title disputes, and HOAs
  • Litigate claims under state and/or federal consumer protection law, real property law, fair housing law, Colorado’s Mobile Home Park Act, and other statutes
  • Work as part of a team or as lead attorney through all stages of state and/or federal litigation, including complaints, motions, discovery, depositions, trials, mediation, and settlement negotiations
  • Set and complete case goals with supervisors
  • Attend weekly supervisor check-ins, firm meetings, and team meetings
  • Coordinate case completion tracking and reporting across CEDP
  • Attend hearings, court appearances, and conferences
  • Interact with and present to organizational partners
  • Prepare and present homeowner and mobile homeowner rights information to clients, organizational partners, and partner organizations
  • Complete case-tracking and personal-management documentation
  • Fulfill other duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Admission or eligibility for admission to the US District Court for the District of Colorado
  • Admission or eligibility for admission to the Colorado State Bar; current admission preferred
  • 2+ years of litigation experience at a non-profit organization, government enforcement agency, legal services provider, or private law firm
  • Strong preference for experience in mortgage servicing, predatory lending, consumer protection, fair lending, bankruptcy, civil rights, housing justice, or other relevant litigation
  • Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal communication, and legal writing skills
  • Supportive, client-focused, and creative mindset
  • Ability and desire to give and receive feedback for continual skills and professional development
  • Demonstrated passion for social and racial justice
  • Strong desire to work in a collaborative, rapid-change environment centered on social justice and equity
  • Willingness and ability to travel within Colorado
  • Robust research and drafting capabilities
  • Strong desire to center client and community needs
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite, CLIO, and Google Suite desired
  • Other language skills not required; additional languages are a strong plus
  • Interest in or experience with class actions or other multi-plaintiff litigation is a plus
