About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Attend the Denver Courthouse Clinic and Community Events weekly, including some weekend and evening events
  • Advise and provide limited representation to clients at clinic and community events
  • Provide know-your-rights and legal education trainings to community partners and internal non-legal teams
  • Track and analyze trends to inform legal strategy and strategic focus
  • Conduct research on important legal issues affecting clients
  • Assist with defensive or affirmative litigation if desired
  • Assist with other projects as needed
  • Complete case goals and grant requirements
  • Coordinate across CEDP to provide holistic legal client services when appropriate and consented to by clients
  • Complete required case and data tracking documentation
  • Potentially supervise legal support staff
  • Assist with staff training, onboarding, substantive skills development, and professional development
  • Adapt and modify duties as the law firm evolves

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Colorado bar admission and JD, or ability to waive in and practice pending admission
  • At least 1 year of legal experience
  • Litigation experience preferred
  • Preference for candidates with 3+ years of experience in housing litigation, including eviction defense or affirmative housing work in trial or appeals
  • Demonstrated passion for social and racial justice
  • Supportive, client-focused attitude
  • Strong desire to center client and community needs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, legal support staff, and supervisors in a rapid-change environment
  • Availability to attend events approximately 3–5 times per month on weekends and evenings
  • Reliable transportation to attend events
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel to Colorado Springs or rural Colorado, including overnight stays
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Creative, self-driven attitude
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite, CLIO, Google Suite, and Adobe Acrobat desired
  • Spanish language fluency is a strong plus, but not required
  • Maintain current vaccination status in keeping with CDC recommendations
