Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise, direct, evaluate, train, counsel, and discipline assigned staff
  • Coordinate daily work activities, assign priorities, monitor work progress, and inspect completed work
  • Ensure OSHA, MUTCD, and other safety requirements; establish safe work zones and correct violations
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and City permits, laws, regulations, and requirements
  • Coordinate work with departments, contractors, agencies, vendors, and the public
  • Develop long-term goals, projects, maintenance schedules, plans, blueprints, and specifications
  • Plan and coordinate projects, work orders, budgets, equipment, personnel, materials, and schedules
  • Inspect work sites and contractor work for quality and proper completion
  • Oversee equipment operation, maintenance, repair, inventory, deliveries, and restocking
  • Supervise and perform sewer/stormwater pipe installation, repair, inspection, cleaning, and sealing
  • Operate CCTV inspection, sewer cleaning, grouting, combination sewer cleaner, and related equipment
  • Supervise green infrastructure, horticulture, landscaping, tree, turfgrass, pest-control, irrigation, and planting activities
  • Apply pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers and maintain application records
  • Provide budgetary input, prepare purchase orders and bid specifications, and investigate accounting discrepancies
  • Process timesheets, leave requests, payroll sheets, accident reports, logs, forms, maps, and technical documentation
  • Operate computers and word-processing, spreadsheet, database, mapping, and related programs
  • Transport workers, equipment, and materials; communicate by telephone and two-way radio
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable regulations, techniques, equipment, and professional developments
  • Perform other assigned duties and report for essential work during inclement weather

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of experience is preferred for general assignments
  • Masonry assignments: vocational education or skilled trade training as a brick mason; two years of masonry experience; two years supervising a work crew and performing administrative duties
  • Public Library assignments: High School Diploma or GED and four years of combined relevant education, training, or experience; two years of crew leadership
  • Carpentry assignments: vocational education or skilled trade training in carpentry; five years of carpentry experience; two years supervising a work crew and performing administrative duties
  • CCTV Operator assignments: four years of experience with CCTV inspection equipment, sewer line cleaning equipment, combination sewer cleaner/vacuum trucks, or sewer line repair; two years supervising a sewer line work crew and performing administrative duties
  • Pipe Installation assignments: one year of sewer/stormwater construction, installation, and maintenance experience; administrative experience; two years of OSHA safety training and/or related experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to obtain TN Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification within six months of hire
  • May be required to obtain PACP certificate
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles, work scheduling, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, sewer/stormwater systems, green infrastructure, horticulture, budgeting, applicable laws, and safe work practices
  • Skills in staff supervision, work assignment, budget monitoring, specification preparation, technical drawing interpretation, heavy equipment operation, equipment maintenance, safety compliance, recordkeeping, and problem resolution
  • Ability to meet physical demands including lifting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motions
  • Must meet regular attendance requirements and be able to work during inclement weather when required
  • Pre-employment background check, DOT drug screening/lift test, and DOT Clearinghouse screening
