About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build new, small web applications and grow the Compass core platform.
  • Take well-scoped work from ticket through production in collaboration with product managers, owners and engineers.
  • Design, develop and maintain secure, well-structured, high-performance software used by students, parents and teachers.
  • Scale and enhance new web applications and build features on the Compass core platform.
  • Write clean, well-tested code, including unit tests for changes and critical paths.
  • Give and receive code reviews.
  • Analyse problems, uncover complexity and design solutions balancing technical feasibility with business value.
  • Document meaningful technical decisions.
  • Use Claude Code day to day for AI-assisted development while maintaining quality.
  • Collaborate with product managers and owners to understand customer needs.
  • Participate in sprint planning, technical design sessions and retrospectives.
  • Triage and resolve production issues with the support team.
  • Communicate ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Learn and apply modern frameworks, tools and practices.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2+ years professional experience in software development.
  • Familiarity with, or aptitude to quickly pick up, C#/.NET and React.
  • Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases, including SQL and MongoDB.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals and understanding of clean code and software design principles.
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or similar.
  • Interest in the whole software lifecycle: testing, shipping and supporting code in production.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proactive mindset, ownership, idea sharing and follow-through.
  • Curiosity about the product and business.
  • Valid Employee Working With Children Check required before commencing employment.
  • Satisfactory National Police Check required before commencing employment.
  • Verification of unrestricted work rights in Australia required before commencing employment.
  • Highly regarded: disciplined approach to AI, quality-focused code review, root-cause analysis, and familiarity with monitoring tools and CI/CD pipelines.
