About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Establish and operationalise data governance frameworks for the organisation and its customers
- Work with business leaders, data teams, application development teams, information security, compliance stakeholders and customer representatives
- Ensure enterprise data is properly owned, defined, protected, measured and used responsibly
- Design and maintain an enterprise-wide data governance framework covering ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, privacy, access and lifecycle management
- Define governance policies, standards, operating procedures, decision rights and escalation mechanisms
- Establish data ownership and stewardship, assign Data Owners and Data Stewards, and define responsibilities and approval workflows
- Conduct governance council meetings and track decisions, risks and action items to closure
- Define data quality dimensions, rules, thresholds and scorecards; identify root causes and manage remediation
- Publish periodic data quality dashboards and improvement reports
- Govern the enterprise business glossary, data dictionary and critical data-element register
- Support documentation of data lineage from source systems through transformation, reporting and consumption
- Align governance practices with privacy, cybersecurity and industry requirements
- Define controls for sensitive, personal, financial and confidential data
- Support audits, risk assessments and regulatory compliance reviews
- Establish role-based data-access principles and approval processes; review access to sensitive and critical datasets
- Govern data used for analytics, business intelligence and artificial intelligence
- Define governance requirements for AI training data, model inputs, outputs, explainability, bias, privacy and responsible use
- Participate in application, data-platform and integration projects to embed governance controls from the design stage
- Conduct training and awareness programmes and develop templates, checklists, playbooks and governance guidance
- Track adoption and address resistance through stakeholder engagement and change management
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology Management, Engineering, Business Administration or a related discipline
- 7–12 years of overall experience in data management, data governance, data quality, business intelligence, data architecture, risk or compliance
- At least 3 years of direct experience implementing or managing a data governance programme
- Practical understanding of data governance operating models
- Practical understanding of data ownership and stewardship
- Practical understanding of data quality management
- Practical understanding of business glossaries and data dictionaries
- Practical understanding of metadata management and data lineage
- Practical understanding of data classification and access governance
- Practical understanding of master and reference data management
- Practical understanding of data privacy and retention
- Experience working with business, technology, risk, security and compliance stakeholders
- Ability to translate policies and regulatory requirements into implementable controls and workflows
- Strong documentation, facilitation, presentation and stakeholder-management skills
- Working knowledge of SQL and the ability to understand database structures, data flows and data-quality reports
- Experience preparing governance dashboards, management reports and remediation plans
- Strong written and spoken English
- Practical implementation capability; candidates whose experience is limited to preparing governance policies, presentations or audit documents without operational ownership may not be suitable
