About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review monthly state sales and use tax returns, tax payments, and other tax filings.
  • Gather, analyze, and validate sales and use tax data to support compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare tax accounting entries related to sales and use tax activities.
  • Research, analyze, interpret, and apply sales and use tax laws to support tax filing positions.
  • Manage sales and use tax registrations, renewals, and account closures.
  • Monitor sales and use tax accounts to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Assist in managing state sales and use tax audits, including gathering supporting documentation, responding to information requests, and performing related research and analysis.
  • Respond to sales and use tax notices and communicate with state and local taxing authorities as needed.
  • Maintain the tax notice log and participate in regular reviews with tax team members to ensure timely resolution of notices and minimize assessments.
  • Respond to sales and use tax inquiries and support internal business groups with tax-related requests and documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain resale and exemption certificates and ensure records are accurately stored and maintained within Vertex Series O.
  • Support the state income tax team with the review of current and amended state income tax returns.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or an equivalent educational background.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in indirect tax, sales and use tax compliance, tax accounting, or public accounting.
  • Experience supporting multi-state sales and use tax filings, tax audits, and tax reporting activities preferred.
  • Experience working in a multinational or shared services environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience working with ERP and financial systems such as Oracle, SAP, Workday, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with indirect tax compliance and reporting systems such as Vertex, OneSource, Avalara, or similar tax applications preferred.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets, prepare reconciliations, and maintain accurate tax records.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and global teams.
